Gunfire Behind Slidell ALDI Sparks Multi-State U-Haul Chase

Two Taken Into Custody After Pursuit Ends in Mississippi

SLIDELL, La. — February 17, 2026

Slidell Police responded to reports of gunfire behind the ALDI grocery store on Northshore Boulevard on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, leading to a pursuit that crossed state lines into Mississippi.

According to initial reports from law enforcement and regional news outlets, officers were dispatched after shots were reportedly fired in the area behind the store. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had already fled the scene in a rented U-Haul van.

Authorities quickly located the vehicle, and a pursuit began that ultimately continued eastbound toward Harrison County, Mississippi.

Mississippi law enforcement agencies assisted in the chase. The pursuit ended near the Menge Avenue exit off Interstate 10 after officers deployed spike strips to disable the vehicle. Two individuals were taken into custody. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Officials have not yet released the names of those detained or the exact circumstances that led to the reported gunfire. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details — including potential charges — are expected as authorities continue reviewing the case.

The incident temporarily drew attention to an otherwise busy commercial area in Slidell, raising questions among residents about what led to the shooting and whether anyone was specifically targeted.
