Smoke and Haze Reported Along I-59 Near Pearl River

Smoke and Haze Reported Along I-59 Near Pearl River

PEARL RIVER, LA — Motorists traveling along Interstate 59 near mile markers 8 and 9 may notice smoke and haze in the area due to ongoing smoldering fires in nearby wooded areas, according to St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11.

Fire officials report that the visible fire activity is contained within established containment lines that forestry crews put in place earlier today. While no active spread is currently reported, residual smoldering and smoke are expected to continue.

Rain forecasted overnight is anticipated to help reduce remaining flames and embers; however, officials advise that smoke production may persist even after rainfall.

Drivers are urged to use caution when traveling through this stretch of I-59, as smoke could intermittently reduce visibility.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates if conditions change.
