🚨 SPOTTED IN ST. TAMMANY: “FLOCK” CAMERAS ARE EVERYWHERE 🚨
Start paying attention and you’ll notice them all over St. Tammany — at neighborhood entrances, high-traffic intersections, shopping centers (Walmart/Lowe’s areas), and major roads.
These systems are commonly described as license plate reader cameras, but they’re not just “reading plates.”
Here’s what they can do:
✅ Motion-triggered capture
They activate when vehicles move through the camera’s view — meaning they’re capturing images whenever traffic or pedestrians pass.
✅ Images can include more than a plate
If a person is nearby (sidewalk, yard, passenger window, etc.), they may appear in the frame depending on angle and distance.
✅ “Vehicle fingerprint” style identification
These systems are marketed as being able to identify vehicles by more than the plate — things like decals/bumper stickers, accessories, and other distinguishing features (and yes… that can include dents, marks, or unique details depending on image quality).
✅ Travel pattern reconstruction (data retention matters)
Even if the “default” retention is around 30 days, a network of cameras can create a trail of vehicle sightings — time + location — that can be used to reconstruct travel patterns for that window.
Whether you support this “for safety” or you’re concerned about privacy… people deserve to know it’s there.
📸 HELP THE COMMUNITY SEE IT:
If you spot a Flock camera, drop:
• A photo (only from public areas — don’t trespass)
• The general location (example: “near Front St / by Walmart entrance / neighborhood entrance off Hwy 11”)
